Most people know the general concept of performing CPR on an adult or adolescent, but what happens when someone much younger is choking? According to the New York State Department of Health, “At least one child dies from choking on food every five days in the U.S. and more than 10,000 children are taken to a hospital emergency room each year for food-choking injuries.”

One of the scariest parts about a choking baby is that not every parent knows how to help their child. St. John Ambulance created an entertaining, yet incredibly valuable PSA about how to dislodge a foreign object from a choking baby. According to the video’s YouTube description, 40 percent of the parents St. John surveyed had witnessed their baby choke, and the majority of them didn’t know how to help them outside of calling an ambulance.
The methods provided in this video are easy for anyone to use. Watch the PSA and pass it on because spreading the word could save lives.
